Overview:

Different people from all levels of experience can benefit from the information provided by the internal tools that were made available since 2005 was introduced and that new SQL versions have been adding & expanding on.

We will tour and see information provided from different DMV's that complement other tools we have relied on and used in the past.

This information can help us make better decisions about the load & optimum state of the database objects being used from our applications.

SQL Server from the ground up:

This full day, hands on session will introduce SQL Server to developers with little or no database experience. We will focus on tSQL syntax (basic and advanced) and database design (transactional and dimensional). We will practice our new tSQL skills by loading data into a classic star schema and then look at ways we can use best practices in data visualization to summarize data for analytics and presentation.

Content will be demonstrated with SQL 2008 R2, but will (in most cases) work in SQL 2005 or newer. Attendees should bring a laptop with SQL Server or SQL Server Express installed. Data will be provided in the session.
